Ladies of Leisure | Rita Hickman, CEO & Founder of Rita Hickman Coaching

Welcome to the Ladies of Leisure series, were we feature inspiring women and their stories of success, wellness and leisure. Through these interviews, we hope to gain insights into the lives of these amazing women and the tips and tricks they use to live a balanced and fulfilling life. We'll also look at their morning routines, advice they have for other female entrepreneurs and their favorite way to spend leisure time. We are honored to introduce you to some of the leading ladies in their fields and hope you find their stories as inspiring as we do.Meet Rita Hickman, a women's narcissist recovery coach. She helps women who are navigating toxic relationships become their authentic selves by coaching by helping them to reverse old trauma and be more focused and personally successful. She became a body/mind healer to reverse her own childhood traumas and after 20+ years she knows all the secrets to help empower women to break out of their fight/flight response and have more money, love and respect. What is your company and what do you do? I help women go through difficult transitions in their life with grace, strength and self-compassion, never abandoning what is best for their well-being and learning how to love themselves first. How do you start your morning? Give us a play by play-- time you get up, 3-5 things you do to start your day. I wake up naturally between 5:30 and 6 am. I spend an hour reviewing my day in my head, visualizing what to expect and creating a time line and action plan. After a routine of shower with goat milk soap and a loofah. (handmade with my mother and sister) and a morning green drink I doctor to taste like hot buttered apple cider. I put on a super soft alpaca sweater and socks and I'm off to my studio around 7:30 am. At my studio, I set my work lights for the color therapy of the day (remote control light bulbs with 18 colors) and look over a checklist of my quarterly intentions, (like stay hydrated, save for retirement, nurture my relationships, create community outreach and win the Nobel Peace Prize - which is a lifelong dream). After I set the lights, turn on a concert speaker system and decide what to meditate on, I take 5 minutes to write a Y for yes next to each intention on my checklist, reaffirming my dedication and getting my brain prepped to unplug and do it's meditation magic. I spend 90 minutes meditating by laying on my shiatsu floor futon using brainwave entrainment music, color therapy, aromatherapy, a library of autobiographies and acupressure balls. This is a deep trance state that I use to kickstart my body/mind's natural healing and growing process. When finished around 10am, my official work day starts. What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs looking to create healthier and invigorating morning routines and habits? Spend time getting clear on what you want (peace, happiness, personal success) and letting go of what you don't want (destructive anger, frustration, worry, helplessness, heartbreak or toxic relationship patterns) What are some of your favorite leisure activities? Meditating. Walking down my country road. Talking to the trees. Spending time with my mother, sister, father, husband, family and friends. Having interesting conversations with interesting people. Gardening. Lighting sacred fires. Re-training my brain to let go and enjoy life. Share a favorite affirmation that other female entrepreneurs could benefit from. I am the beloved. The beloved is me. Ladies of Leisure | Founder and Creative Director of Yinsa/LiveYinsa, Daniele Gates

We are honored to introduce you to some of the leading ladies in their fields and hope you find their stories as inspiring as we do. Meet Daniele Gates, an educator and mentor to students around the world, using the ancient traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda as her lens. Over the last 15 years, Daniele has studied Yoga, Ayurveda, Herbalism and Astrology with Pure Yoga, Prema Yoga Institute, Pranamaya, Jai Dev, Adriana Ayales, Brandon Ruiz, Kate Kuss, Marc Nelles, Dr. Vani Gandhi, Jessica Baptiste, and a number of other teachers and mentors. With over 1,000 hours of study, Daniele has applied the synthesis of her learning to classes and workshops on the LiveYinsa platform, along with in-person, trainings, speaking engagements, and retreats worldwide, all focused on helping clients transmute their trauma into energy that allows them to elevate physically, mentally, and spiritually. Students who work with Daniele appreciate the brave spaces she creates where no one is judged, and everyone finds the space they need to heal. When she’s not working with students in group or 1:1 settings, you can find Daniele dancing with her husband, Yohan, and her Pekingese, Gizmo, on various beaches in the Dominican Republic. What is your company and what do you do? LiveYinsa is a spiritual wellness and lifestyle brand that aims to help women and men find a work life balance that supports their healing journey. Through classes and workshops, a membership platform, trainings, retreats, and private coaching, I help women transmute their trauma into energy that they can harness and use to manifest their dream lives. How do you start your morning? Give us a play by play-- time you get up, 3-5 things you do to start your day. I make coffee for my ancestors and an herbal tea for myself. I sit at my altar, do a blessing of my head and a card pull, followed by journaling and meditation. I sometimes do some reading, and then I review my calendar for the day and make a plan for how I will work for that day. I find a way to work in exercise; sometimes in the morning, and sometimes I end my day with yoga. What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs looking to create healthier and invigorating morning routines and habits? Plug everything into your calendar, just like you do appointments. If you create space for it, it's easier to make it happen. I love the bundling suggestions in atomic habits by James clear, and I try to bundle good habits so that I keep them. What are some of your favorite leisure activities? Yoga, meditation, swimming, walking, spinning, hiking, spending time in nature. What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs looking to create healthier and invigorating morning routines and habits? To all the female entrepreneurs out there, my advice would be to find a routine that works for you! We are honored to introduce you to some of the leading ladies in their fields and hope you find their stories as inspiring as we do.  Meet Kim Dow, the owner and publisher of Sass Magazine. Kim Dow is an entrepreneur at heart. She has combined her creative spirit with her drive to empower women with her love of animals to start three award-winning businesses. Her flagship company is Sass Studios—a boutique branding and creative design studio that specializes in supporting and empowering women-owned businesses by helping them cultivate their visual “voice”. Kim also launched Sass Magazine, a women's lifestyle and professional publication that celebrates real women. With both a regional printed magazine as well as a national online base, Sass Magazine serves up articles on a variety of topics including career, wellness, travel, style, beauty, home, (and more!), as well as special feature articles spotlighting women doing amazingly kick ass things! Additionally, Kim also launched EverydayDogMagazine.com, a lifestyle website for modern day dog owners and lovers. She serves as the owner, publisher, and creative director for both publications. When not at work, Kim can be found hanging out at home with her husband and high school sweetheart, Jimmy, who is a high school math teacher by day and a fisherman by weekend. They share their home with their rescued animals; a pitbull named JAX and a cat named Maizie. In her spare time, Kim enjoys reading, traveling, hiking and gardening. What is your company and what do you do? Sass Magazine is a women's lifestyle publication, both as a local in-print magazine as well as a digital resource for women across the country. We help empower women in business and life by sharing their inspiring stories, giving them content and resources for both business and self growth, and hosting events both in person and online for networking and connections. How do you start your morning? Give us a play by play-- time you get up, 3-5 things you do to start your day. I am NOT a morning person and never have been. So, I like to start my mornings slow and quiet. I usually wake up around 8/8:30 and take a few minutes to think about my day before I get started with anything. I name 3 things I need to accomplish that day. I always have a good breakfast, then spend some time cuddling with my cat and/or outside with my dog. If it's summertime, I will spend a little time in my garden. Basically, I like to have a little time to myself in the mornings and then dive in and get started with work. However, a big thing that helps me in the morning is actually my evening routine. Every night right before I go to bed, I take a moment to reflect on the following: 3 things I accomplished that day; 3 things I'm grateful for, and 3 things I will accomplish the next day. What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs looking to create healthier and invigorating morning routines and habits? Figure out when you are most productive. I've never been a morning person and know that I am most productive in the late afternoon and early evenings. So, I try to schedule my workflow around that. Always eat a good breakfast! For me, it's been helpful to basically eat the same thing every morning...one less decision to make! Also, even if you're working from home, get dressed everyday, and get dressed shortly after or right after you wake up. It helps put you into a productive mindset. What are some of your favorite leisure activities? Reading has always been a big part of my life. However, my rule is that I don't read business books. Reading is a hobby, it's for pleasure and I don't want it to start feeling like work. I also love traveling and trying out local restaurants and craft breweries wherever I travel. Share a favorite affirmation that other female entrepreneurs could benefit from: Believe in yourself.
